Ethical Responsiveness and the Politics of Difference
Angebote / Angebote:
This book focuses on the ethics, politics, and practices of listening and reading in the context of racism, inequality, difference, and controversy in a globalizing world that is deeply fractured and polarized. This volume address the contemporary fracture by speaking to alternative political possibilities based on ethical responsiveness to others. To develop the emerging scholarship on ethical responsiveness, contributors interrogate what can be learned from critical scholarship on negotiating difference, political listening, alter politics, ally and solidarity work, and decolonizing strategies. The book engages recent work on rethinking recognition and the limits of liberal free speech theory, foregrounding approaches that move beyond a comfortable politics of empathy and engage instead with processes that might disturb. This collection explores the productive possibilities of moving beyond the politics of voice to explore politics of response across difference in research and in advocacy work.
