Excerpt from Fifteenth Report to the Legislature of Massachusetts, Relating to the Registry and Return of Births, Marriages, and Deaths, in the Commonwealth: For the Year Ending December 31, 1856The labor of condensing and combining the returns of the several town clerks and registrars, and of preparing the abstracts and tables which accompany them, for the present Report, has been performed by Dr. Edward Strong and ether clerks in this office, who, I am informed by the author of the Report, have accomplished their laborious task with the greatest promptness, and with the usual care and accuracy.That the Report might be intelligible to all classes of the community, care has been taken to avoid as far as pos sible the use of technicalities.In the preparation of the tables, and also in the calcula tions submitted in the summary remarks, the facts deduced from the last State census, taken in June, 1855, have been used.
