TOPICAL THEMES VIA ACCESSIBLE POETRY: Moure uses the energetic medium of poetry to bring forth themes surrounding love and working life and feminism, especially as social discourse on desire, sexuality, and gender grows increasingly relevant. Unlike her later and more experimental work that defies explication, Moure's earlier collections, including Furious, are more accessible "but nevertheless advance a radical politics through a feminist approach that often foregrounds lesbian desire." CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED: Furious won the Governor General's Literary Award for Poetry in 1988, cementing Moure's reputation as a distinguished and masterful writer. She has been a finalist for the award three subsequent times: in 1996, 2002, and 2005. Similarly, Moure's collection Kapusta (published by House of Anansi) was a finalist for the A. M. Klein Prize for Poetry in 2015 and has recently been named a finalist for the 2018 Kobzar Literary Award, a biennial $25, 000 prize that recognizes the best Ukrainian-Canadian stories. HANDSOME A LIST REISSUE: Furious will receive the full A List treatment, including an original cover illustration and a thoughtful new introduction.
