Excerpt from History of the Richardson Light Guard of Wakefield, Mass., 1851-1901: Published Under the Direction and Authority of the General Committee on the Occasion of the Semi-Centennial Celebration of the Company, October 11, 1901
The golden anniversary of the richardson light guard on October I I, Ioor, marks an important period in its existence. The past fifty years have brought to this honorable organization many and notable changes, a deserved prominence not limited by the bor ders of the town of Wakefield or the state of Massachusetts, and a remarkable record for patriotic service and deeds Of valor upon the battlefield. Five times the company has responded to the call of the country for volunteers and four times have the members of the Richardson Light Guard participated in the perils and hardships of actual warfare. SO it seems appropriate at this half century mile stone to perpetuate, in permanent form, a record of the principal events affecting the organization from the date of its inception to the present time.
