The significance of Human Resource Development (HRD) function in a large sized
organisation is indicated by the place assigned to it in the corporate hierarchy. This study
aims to ascertain the place of HR function and its role in corporate enterprises in India,
analysing top managers' perspective of HR function vis-a-vis other corporate functions.
The main hypothesis of the study is that the top management has not accorded HRD
function its due place in the corporate hierarchical hierarchy in Indian enterprises.
Several other hypotheses have been tested through information collected from the
selected Indian companies.
