Planetary Defense
Angebote / Angebote:
This book discusses several political models of Earth defense from near-Earth objects (NEOs). In addition to considering the technology needed for such a project, the authors address political feasibility of its usage. While it may be possible to detect global threats in advance, it is much more difficult to design and implement any form of planetary defense.
The authors believe the final proposed policy should also be based on practical engineering solutions and innovative architectural structures. However, planetary defense cannot be achieved with technology alone. This complex interdisciplinary project demands global participation and collaboration.
Planetary Defense appropriately addresses both nuclear and directed energy (especially laser) methods of NEO deflection. Similarly, the book addresses various governance models and their implications for space policy.
The book directly addresses issues of space science and technology as they intersect with policy and legal issues. The book is written for a scholarly audience in a style accessible to non-specialists, which can be read by scholars from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.
