It consists, as its title page purports, altogether of secular music. The selection has been made chie¿y from those songs, and other pieces, which have obtained a decided popularity. This, however, was not found to be a very easy matter, for of the great multitude of such pieces, but few are equally and entirely unobjectionable in their text and in their music. In many cases it has been found necessary to make alterations in the poetry, and in every instance, its character has been primarily regarded.
