In other words, all that'section of Pennsylvania below the fortieth parallel was embraced in the original province of Mary land. Nearly half a century later, March 4, 1681, William Penn received from King Charles II a grant of territory extending from the northern boundary of Maryland to the forty-second degree of north latitude.
