Excerpt from 1600 Business Books: Arranged by Authors, by Titles and by SubjectsThis catalog is the result of nearly nine years' search for printed matter relating to business. The difficulty of discovering and selecting the literature of business - using literature in its broadest sense to include all printed matter - and the constant calls for information about it, led us to record what we found for the use of that rapidly increasing number of people who are interested in business books and business libraries.The size of this list is alone a convincing argument for the importance of its subject. It was compiled primarily to give the business men of Newark a comprehensive yet simple guide for office use to the books, direc tories, periodicals, etc., in the Business Branch of the Newark Free Public Library. It is published now that the libraries and business men of other cities may have ready access to the results of our efforts to exploit a field of print as yet little known. This book is not a complete list of business literature, nor even a complete catalog of all that is iri the Business Branch. Which includes several thousand books of a general character, with many encyclopedias and reference books.The books in the Main Library on economics, science and technology are not duplicated at the Branch. The whole Main Library collection. Which includes a fully equipped Technical Department, is made easily available to Business Branch borrowers by telephone and by three daily deliveries between the two. Some subjects have been included which have only an indirect relation to business.
