About the author: The late Virginia Chute was born in Portland, Maine and earned a BA and MA at the University of Maine. She taught English Literature and Introductory
Philosophy for a few years and then owned and operated a used bookstore for twenty-three years She married poet and biologist, Robert M. Chute and had a son and daughter (a writer and teacher, respectively).
