Many persons, who would never think of practising either on themselves or others, may be desirous to have some notion of the phenomena of disease, and to know the symptoms which indicate danger, and if such were to apply to our regular and scientific treatises, they would find themselves totally bewildered amidst a multitude of terms altogether new to them, and amidst reasonings from data which they had never heard of. The deviations from health which occur in the early periods of life are so numerous, that if a practitioner were called upon to treat them all, he must be almost a daily visitant in the nursery, and sensible and attentive parents are anxious to know what ailments or symptoms occurring in infancy, may be trusted to a little simple medicine and the regulation of the diet, and what are unsafe to be treated except by a medical attendant.
