Had their german-english dictionaries been worked out in the same spirit, had they been carried out to an equal extent and had they comprehended with greater exactness the various branches of Art and Science, the compiler of the present publication would, in all probability, have been spared a task involving no inconsiderable labour.It has been the author's principal aim in completing this german-english part of his Lexicon, to supply the deficiencies complained of in the works of his predecessors. It has been the study of the best part of his life to furnish the student with a work embodying all the valuable results of German Iexicography.
