I have no wish to make any presumptuous attempt to do that feebly which I have no doubt will be vigourously performed by some one of those among the signers who, as you truly say, stand in the foremost rank of our contemporary divines, if he shall deem it necessary to reply to your observations. Still farther is it from my intention to go through the judgment and give my reasons for dissenting from it in toto. Any such proceeding has been rendered wholly super¿uous by the unanswerable letter of the Bishop of Exeter, and the equally unanswerable preface to Mr. Badeley's corrected impression of his speech. The object at which I shall aim is of a much humbler character.
