Excerpt from A Physical Survey Extending From Atlanta, Across Mississippi and Mississippi the Line of the Georgia Pacific Railway, Embracing the Georgia Topography, Minerals, Soils, Climate, Forests, and Agricultural and Manufacturing Resources of the Country, 1883
During the Summer and Autumn of 1882 we made a reconnoissance of the belt of country extending due west from Atlanta, Ga., to the Mississippi River, giving special attention to its geologic structure, its minerals, soils, products and physical resources generally. The results of this examination, so far as they would be likely to interest the public, are herein given, and to these results we have added other and valuable information, obtained from the most authoritative sources. The reader may be surprised at the magnitude and variety of the resources of this singularly favored region, but probably cannot be more so than we were upon first learning the facts.
Outline Of Topics.
