Excerpt from A Preliminary Sketch of the Phosphates of FloridaThe existence of phosphate of lime within the State of Florida has been known for over a decade, but until the spring of 1887, the extent and value of its deposits, possibly with one exception, were unsuspected. In that year Col. T. S. Moorehead, induced by a statement made by Mr. J. F.
