In this he was much assisted by Miss Eleanor Thompson, of Clements, who built, for him and his young friends, the Reading Room. Here he was able to expand his usefulness by evening classes, singing, elocution, and other species of instruction, with periodical entertainments &c., , the chief of which 'were the Penny Readings, from the profits of which the Soup Kitchen was established, and its funds from year to year received much support.In commemoration of the opening of the Reading Room Mr. Tuck was presented with a 35-guinea harmonium, subscribed for by several gentlemen, Mr. I.
