A study on high-risk groups with psychosocial concomitant of traum

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to investigate the role of psychosocial concomitants of secondary traumatization in high risk professional groups. The key variables of the study were cognitive orientation, emotional processing, quality of life, social support and personality and secondary trauma. The study included a sample of 150 cases drawn from police services, emergency doctors and psychiatrists who comprised high risk groups in the study and 50 cases were selected from MNC professionals as control group. The measures used in study were Secondary traumatic stress scale, Professional quality of life scale, emotional processing scale, Cognitive orientation scale and perceived social support scale. ANOVA and Protected 't' test were used to analyze the data. Results indicated that the subjects in the high risk professional groups significantly differed on some traits of personality as compare to normal controls. Various belief types, job burnout and some aspects of emotional processing were found to be significantly different in these groups as compare to the control group whereas no significant difference was found on social support and compassion satisfaction
