Excerpt from A Treatise on Private International Law: With Principal Reference to Its Practice in England
The spelling domicile, intended to rhyme with exile, and corresponding with the analogy in form between domiciliam and exilium, has been retained. It would be remarkable if domicil, which, by its analogy to exil and sourcil, would seem to have a French origin, should ultimately prevail in England, while in France the rivalry of the two forms has been definitely decided in favour of domicile.
