Excerpt from A Treatise Practice of the Circuit Courts, State of Michigan: Embracing Practical Forms of Proceedings Therein The state is divided into ten judicial circuits, exclusive of the Upper Peninsula, in each of which the electors thereof elect one circuit judge, who holds his office for the term of six years, and until his successor is elected and qualified. They are required to hold a circuit court, at least twice in each year, in every county organized for judicial purposes, and four times in each year in counties containing ten thousand inhabitants. They are authorized to hold courts for each other at pleasure, and may be required to do so by law in specified cases. They are ineligible to any other than a judicial o¿ice during the term for which they are elected, and for one year thereafter.(1) 'the number of the circuits and of the circuit judges may be increased by the legislature.
