Abortion Trail Activism

Angebote / Angebote:

Abortion trail activists are organizations and movements that enable access to abortion. Although often discussed as response to an absence of abortion access, these groups act as a dynamic infrastructure of abortion care. While practically-minded, they are resolutely political, rooted in reproductive justice-orientated, feminist and prefigurative politics of abortion care. Crucially, they are intertwined with broader histories of feminist activism and support for gendered care. Abortion trail activism is complex. Often resistant to but tacitly condoned by state architectures. Abortion trails themselves can and have been presented in differing ways by pro-choice actors - as both dangerous and supportive, secret and open, restrictive and liberatory, new and well-trodden. In this volume, Deirdre Duffy centres abortion trails as a discussion point. Using the metaphor of trails, Duffy underlines the agile, emergent, grounded and free-floating essence of activisms working on and connected with infrastructures of abortion care and access. She pays attention to the varying ways they can be interpreted. Combining rich accounts from activists working in vastly different contexts with cultural and sociology theories of care, prefiguration and health access, Duffy contends that trails offer opportunities to deepen our appreciation of the living histories of abortion access globally.
