The limitations of space precluded adequate consideration of the historical and biographical facts connected with the found ation of The Prudential, emphasis having been placed upon the social and economic conditions giving rise to the success ful development of a new thrift institution in America. For a more extended account, however, the History of The Prudential, published in 1900, may be consulted, but even in that work only scant justice has been done to the founders of the Company, who risked everything in what, at that time, was certainly a precarious venture in a new and untried field of insurance.
