French made an offer which resulted in the erection of the present Church. I think I ought to say that that was the most liberal offer I ever heard of. The Church was to be a memorial, it was to be free and to be held for the purposes of our Communion. But the Vestry had twenty-five thousand dollars, afterwards increased to twenty-seven, placed in its hands practically without restriction. We might have built a small wooden structure, and a parish house, and had all free of debt.
