At birth the young may closely resemble the parent, or be very dissimilar, in the latter case, it is known as a larva, and undergoes a series of changes or a meta morphosis before it attains the adult state.Even closely allied animals may be born at very different stages in their development, the higher animals are, however, generally born at s relatively later stage than those lower in the animal scale.
