The earliest and most primitive form Of sea transport may have been the solid log which eventually became transformed into the dug out canoe. The simple log survived until recent times as a means Of navigation in several outlying parts Of the earth. Pointed logs have been reported among certain Of the aboriginal peoples Of North Australia, and they were used by many North Amer ican peoples in crossing rivers.
