Excerpt from Annual Report, Division of Intramural Research Programs, National Institute of Mental Health, October 1, 1986-September 30, 1987, Vol. 2: Part 1, Individual Project ReportsTo date, little biomedical research has been done to explore possible underpinnings of this disorder.Previous findings in this project tend to support a role for biological factors in the various symptoms of this disorder. A high prevalence of neurological soft sign abnormalities and psychomotor - psychosensory symptoms were found in this population. Results of medication trials showed that carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant was effective in reducing episodes of dyscontrol and impulsivity, while tranylcypromine proved to be an effective antidepressant with some reduction in emotional lability. Alprazolam, an antianxiety agent, lessened anxiety but was associated with increased impulsivity and behavioral dyscontrol.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
