Gordon, Jr. Was appointed nih Associate Director for Clinical Care and Director of the Clinical Center, succeeding Dr. Thomas C. Chalmers who accepted a position as President of the Mount Sinai Medical Center and Dean of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York. During the 3-month interim Clinical Center Associate Director Dr. Roger L. Black served as Acting Director. Dr. Gordon had previously been Clinical Director, National Institute of Arthritis, Metabolism, and Digestive Diseases for 10 years and has been with nih since 1951.In addition to his responsibilities as Clinical Center Associate Director, Dr. Black served as acting chief of the Rehabilitation Department following the retirement of former chief Dr. David M.
