Marriott is a Black poet writing at a time of increased interest in Black poetry in the United States.He's an experimental Black poet, and there's a growing audience for avant-garde Black poetry from authors like Fred Moten, Douglas Kearny, Tyrone Williams, C.S. Griscombe, among others.Marriott is a leading theorist of Afropessimism, along with Frank B. Wilderson III, author of Afropessimism. Wilderson will provide an endorsement for this book.Marriott's poetry is also specific and political, tying into contemporary subject matter like the Grenfell Tower Fire disaster in London.Marriott, an author originally from the UK, differentiates himself from his American contemporaries and so we are hoping to get some international attention for the book and the series as a whole, more than usual. Before moving to the U.S. Marriott was well established as a poet in the UK.
