With his suite he came from the state apartments he had been occupying in the hotel and entered the first ¿oor chamber, known as the small dining room, where the committees of the German Society were waiting for him. Gustav H. Schwab and Hubert Cillis headed the welcoming delega tion, and they presented to the royal visitor each of the forty members.It was during this informal gathering, while the main body of diners was collecting on the next ¿oor, that Carl Schurz came in and made haste to grasp the Prince's hands. The latter seemed extraordinarily glad to see the man who had once been forced to leave Germany, and they chatted and laughed together for some minutes.Then the committees, the Prince and his suite, and Mr. Schurz marched into the ballroom, where they were received uproariously.
