This is a book about the challenges a small rural community can bring to a new teaching professional, Earl Pike, who comes to their area. It is a book about the difficulties of trying to find justice amid inbred corruption within an old established social network based on racial prejudice. When this network is challenged, chaos occurs. Earl gets involved with a local church congregation. In the process, Earl tries to help a young newlywed who is abused. Her husband's family thwarts justice by bribing the judge at her divorce trial. An innocent man is blamed, who subsequently dies as a result by his own hand. The community is in an uproar, and as things develop, two murders occur, and the family's involvement in corruption is exposed. As a result, God's justice prevails, and faith triumphs amidst hardship.
