Excerpt from By-Laws of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society: Adopted June, 1866 The names of persons to be balloted for at the annual election shall be contained on one ballot, and the offices for which they are respectively nominated shall be distinctly designated. The polls shall remain open thirty minutes at least, and, when closed, the President or presiding officer shall appoint a Committee of two to assort, count, and report the number of votes given, and the Presi dent shall declare who has a majority and who are elected.
