The greater portion of this calendar consists of abstracts of the early deeds, which form a very important section of the Corporation Records. The city records must have suffered great loss at some time, for, apart from these deeds, few of the early records are preserved, and of these the royal charters constitute a considerable part. The rolls of the borough court have entirely perished, their existence being recorded solely by the endorsements of some of the deeds witnessing their enrolment in the court rolls of Gloucester.
