Excerpt from Catalogue of the Library of the Theol, Seminary in Andover, MassThe alphabetical Catalogue is considered as the most important, and as lying at the foundation of a systematic Index, I have therefore been very minute and full in my registrations, and to avoid the necessity of repeating the title of a work in referring to it, I have connected a letter of the English or of the Greek alphabet with it, in the page. Thus, 127, z, means p. 127, letter z, opposite-to which will be found Maxima, etc. 129, 0, or p. 129, letter 0, connected with which willi be found Dictionnaire, etc. This simple plan will render it easy to make out quite a full systematic index, on a very small scale.Whenever a' work or an article is to be' entered, the name of the au thor is always sought for. In the first place, and exhibited, if necessary, in the different forms it may assume. This, it is thought, agreeably to the mode. Originally adopted here by Prof. Gibbs, and also to the prevailing taste of Europe, should be accompanied with some short, specific, bio graphical notice, which, whenever possible, has accordingly been done.§ The name of the author being duly entered, all his productions are arranged under it, in alphabetical order, excepting that Whole works are placed first. References from one volume or author to another, are made in a. Parenthesis. Lives or biographies. By a different hand, naturally come last, provided they are not mentioned in connection with some previous article. Any bibliographical or other notices, which it was thought desirable to add.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
