INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
The power sector of India is the fifth largest in the world. The
power sector has grown enormously from the installed capacity of 1363 MW
during independence in August 1947 to 258701.46 MW as of 31st January
2015. Of this, 180361.89 MW i.e. 69.71% of the generated energy comes
from thermal power plants which emit large amounts of greenhouse gases and
enhance global warming. The share of various renewable energy sources
(RES) based power plants amount to 31692.14 MW, which is just 12.25% of
the total installed capacity. Primarily wind power dominates the RES-based
power generation systems (PGS) and as of 31st January 2015, it accounts for
21151.36 MW, i.e. 8.17% of India's total installed power capacity, and it
generates 1.6% of the country's power (Central Electric Authority (CEA),
