No. Angry merchant responses and calls to the police would expose him as a deceptive person. Hope to explain by saying he has a magic bill? That would convince his son: the old man is losing his mind. Then he'd certainly have his father committed. To prevent his loss of freedom, the father had to get rid of the $100 bill. But how? It's possible. His friend did it.
