Excerpt from Chats on Writers and Books, Vol. 1Born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, November a7th, 18 34, Mr. Crawford removed to Davenport, Iowa, in 1857, where he remained in the practice of law until 1875, when he established himself in Chicago. At first the opportunities which the profession of his choice held out to him here seemed to offer prospects ofspeedy advance ment, but proximity to a great market for the manuscripts which it was his delight to prepare proved too alluring for continued loyalty to the law and it was not long before he was enrolled at several newspaper o¿ices as a regular and valued contributor. In this way for nearly thirty years Mr. Crawford maintained at various times edi totial relations with the Chicago Tribune, the Chi cago Herald, the Chicago Evening Post and the Chicago Evening Journal until the day of his death, which took place on the 22d of April, 1903.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
