When Juliet Gillman's fiancé breaks up with her a month before their wedding date, she decides to plan her future and to rely on no one but herself.
Her job as a teacher for special needs children already gives her great satisfaction. Purchasing a home is next on her wish list, even though it might be a far-reaching goal. That is until an unexpected windfall, an inheritance from an unknown great-uncle, changes her life in many interesting ways. Determined to find out more about her benefactor, Juliet reaches out to his attorney who is the last link to that relative.
But problems soon arise. Not only her family resents her inheritance but is also reluctant to accept an interracial relationship with the man she falls in love with. Furthermore, a woman living in Juliet's community, who seems charming at first impression, turns out to be a manipulative liar with an agenda of her own.
Juliet tries to be patient, but there comes a time when even patience has an expiration date and taking action becomes necessary.
