NO one doubts that the author, who certainly was acquainted with the proverbs, also attributed to 'solomon, did not wish to put in the foreground the successor of David. This celebrated king appeared to him simply as a convenient personage for the object he had proposed to himself namely, to point out the vanity of everything.
