Excerpt from Compensation of Locomotive Inspectors: Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, House of Representatives, Friday, April 12, 1918When Congress fixed the salaries of locomotive-boiler inspectors the commission felt that consistency and fair treatment required that the salaries of chiefs, assistant chiefs, and inspectors in connection with the safety appliance and hours of service acts should be brought into alignment therewith. We therefore deem it proper to mention that, if the salaries of locomotive-boiler inspectors are increased as proposed by the pending bill, the same motives of cmrsistencv and fair treatment will probably lead to corresponding increases in our division of safety. The work of which is not less exacting or important. It will be necessary, of course, to make the corresponding increases in the appropriations for this commission by an aggregate of approximately per annum.
