In alternating chapters, two girls narrate the story of the haunted mansion that the Crandalls have purchased to turn into a bed and breakfast. Twelve-year-old Charlie is adjusting to life with a new step-father when her Uncle Will buys the house and enlists her help in cleaning it. Fourteen-year-old, orphaned Sophia has recently come to live with Uncle Wills family and is afraid her new family will discover her secret she knows things before they happen. Though their relationship is rocky, both girls are fearful about whats going on at the mansion, and the suspense and tension between them and in the house builds to a chilling climax.
