Excerpt from Debate on the Evidences of Christianity, Vol. 1 Western Disirict or Vikcima, to wit: - Be It Remembered, That on this eighteenth day of June, Anno Domini 1829, and in the fifty-third year of the Independence of the United States of America, Alexandre Campbell, of the said District, hath deposited in my office the title of a book, the right whereof he claims as proprietor, in the words and figures following, to wit: - "Debate on the Evidences of Christiainity, containing an Examination of the "Social System, " and of all the systems of Scepticism of ancient and modern times: held in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, from the 13th to the 21st of April, 1829, between Robert Owen, of New Lanark, Scotland, and Alexander Campbell, of Bethany, Virginia. Reported by Charles H. Sims, Stenographer. With an Appendix, written by the parties." "What then is unbelief? - 'Tis an exploit, A strenuous enterprize. To gain it man Must burst through every bar of common sense. Of common shame - magnanimously wrong! - Who most examine, most believe, Parts, like half sentences, confound. Read his whole volume.
