Designing for the Forgotten

Angebote / Angebote:

Design for the Forgotten: Eliminating the stigma of Affordable Housing conducts an architectural analysis of Pruitt-Igoe housing development in St. Louis, Missouri while comparing other affordable communities and their design strategies in an effort to eliminate the stigma of affordable housing. This book takes a look at the development of the affordable housing communities in the United States. The research explores the history of segregation in America and the development of communities in inner cities. Where stratification is most noticeable is in the housing industry, where the disparity between the architecture of the inner-city is often inferior in comparison to that market rate design and construction. The research conducts an architectural analysis of various affordable housing communities across the United States, using a myriad of lessons learned from the analysis to better design an affordable housing community. The conclusion is a summary of the various strategies used in the design application combined with social and structural consideration which should be incorporated into the design process when focusing on affordable housing communities.
