Excerpt from Determinations of Atomic Weights: Further Investigation Concerning the Atomic Weights of Silver, Lithium and Chlorine, The Harvard Determinations of Atomic Weights, Between 1870 and 1910, Methods Used in Precise Chemical Investigation
Without attempting to give a complete historical discussion, the most important results of other investigations may be mentioned. The inter esting and valuable results of Dixon and Edgar, l of W. A. Noyes and H. C. P. Weber, 2 and of Edgar alone3 upon the quantitative synthesis of hydrochloric acid furnish less direct evidence upon the matter in hand, for they need the introduction of two other ratios, namely, that of hydrogen to oxygen and that of chlorine to silver, in order to solve the problem.
