Der von 1737 bis 1742 im Hause Johann Sebastian Bachs lebende Schweinfurter Vetter Johann Elias Bach (1705-1755) hat eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Briefkonzepten hinterlassen. Diese enthält neben zahlreichen geschäftlichen und familiären Schreiben Johann Elias Bachs auch einige an Johann Sebastian, Carl Philipp Emanuel und Johann Ernst Bach gerichtete Briefe. Die heute als Dauerleihgabe im Bach-Archiv Leipzig befindlichen und bislang nur teilweise ausgewerteten Konzepte bilden eine zentrale Quelle zum Alltagsleben des Thomaskantors und seiner Familie und können darüber hinaus als wichtige zeitgeschichtliche Dokumente gelten. In der 2., erweiterten Auflage werden zudem drei neu aufgefundene Briefe Johann Elias Bachs aus den Jahren 1738 und 1740 erstmals veröffentlicht.****************Johann Elias Bach (1705-1755), a cousin from Schweinfurt who lived in the household of Johann Sebastian Bach from 1737 to 1742, left a large collection of draft letters. As well as business and family correspondence of his own, these include some letters to Johann Sebastian, Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Ernst Bach. These drafts, now kept in the Bach Archive in Leipzig and not yet fully researched, are a major source of in-formation on the everyday life of the Cantor of St. Thomas and his family, as well as being important contemporary documents. In this second, enlarged edition three newly-discovered additional letters from Johann Elias Bach dating from 1738 and 1740 are published for the first time.
