Excerpt from Diseases of Women: Including Abnormalities of Pregnancy, Labor and Puerperium, A Clinical Study of Pathological Conditions Characteristic of the Five Periods of Woman's LifeThe writer developed and made use of a system of case teaching in the early days of his Summer Courses in Obstet rics, and was SO far convinced Of its pedagogic value that in the autumn of 1890 he sought permission of the Faculty of Medicine to give voluntary exercises by this method in the Harvard Medical School. Permission was granted, and case teaching in Obstetrics was begun as a voluntary exercise In January, 1891. It was subsequently made a regular part Of the curriculum, and the writer employed the method for many years in teaching gynaecology.It is hoped that the material presented in this series of cases may be Of service to teachers and students, and helpful to graduates who would like to review their knowledge Of pathological Obstetrics and Of the diseases Of women, and who may not be able to take graduate courses in a medical school or hospital.The writer would express his thanks and sense Of Obliga tion to Dr. Robert M.
