Discovered Marjory embroidering doily on hoop. She laughs quietly to herself. Glances up at clock. Rises, goes over and turns hands of clock back an hour. Then, as if seized with a sudden thought, takes from pigeon-hole in desk two envelopes, addresses and stamps them. Again laughs. Goes back to seat and takes up fancy-work. Enter D.L. John. He is a good-looking young man, dressed for street, hat, overcoat, gloves, etc. John. Hello! Supper' bout ready? Marjory. Why, no, dear - not at this hour. John. What's the matter with the hour? (Consulting watch) It's - the fool thing has stopped. But it must be - (Glancing at clock) Is it only four o'clock? Marjory. That little clock is generally reliable, dear. John.
