Excerpt from Edinburgh Medical Journal, Vol. 20The material on which this thesis is based is very largely derived from the study of upwards of 400 cases of cerebro-spinal fever during the epidemic of 1914 to 1917. With very few exceptions, I have been responsible for the treatment of all Of these cases. In any comparison of the cases in the present series with those Of past epidemics the great difference in age and sex incidence must always be kept in mind. All my cases occurred in adults, and with few exceptions in adult males who, a short time previously, had passed a medical examination as to their fitness for service with His Majesty's Forces.Perhaps, on the whole, less objection Can be raised to the name cerebro-spinal fever than to most that have been employed. The disease is certainly a general infection, and in the great majority Of cases the most obvious symptoms are those due to infection Of the central nervous system and its covering membranes.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
