Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the 6th orthodox schools of Hindu philosophical traditions (Feuerstein, 1998). The great sage Patanjali who was born in 200 BC systematised the science of yoga which was being handed down by word of mouth from one generation to another. Traditionally it said that Lord Siva was the innovator of yoga. Yoga is explained vividly in the great scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Gita and Ramayana (Gnanabakthan, 2011). Classical Yoga or Astanga Yoga (Yoga of eight limbs) is mainly the type of Yoga such as Y ama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi outlined in the highly influential (Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, White, David Gordon, 2014)
Yoga could come from the outside and appear as just a physical exercise to tone the body, but its benefits lies buried only to be unravelled with persistent practice. The Police officials have turned to Yoga, to beat their work stress due to their excited lifestyle. Yoga Asanas apart from contributing to the physical fitness of and human being extends to calm and soothe the mind paving way for deeper relaxation for stress management.
