Excerpt from Electromagnetic Fields Radiated From Electrostatic Discharges: Theory and ExperimentAs the name implies, esd consists of two different phases. Electrostatic refers to the relatively slow _buildup of a local voltage differential and the associated static electric field. Discharge denotes the rapid transfer of the resultant accumulated charge due to the breakdown of an intervening insulator, typically air. The basic esd phases are (l) the corona-generated rf fields, (2) the pre-discharge effects, (3) the discharge current, (4) the discharge electric field, and (5) the discharge magnetic field. Each can affect sensitive electronic equipment. The corona, pre-discharge effects, and channel development are briefly discussed in Section 2. However, the main threat comes from the currents and fields that result from actual discharge.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
