Excerpt from English Verse-Structure: A Prefatory StudyIN a recently published pamphlet, ' an attempt was made to indicate the lines on which a truly English hexameter, following the rules and methods of our native verse, might yet be written. And incidentally it was suggested that the period of time, rather than either the foot or the accent, should be regarded as the unit of English verse.
