Translation understood as a phenomenon of asymmetric negotiation of languages and identities constitutes a central aspect in the debates that seek to explain the 'invisibility' of Latin American cultural plurality. This book proposes to reflect on 'scenes of translation' in a bid that seeks to read against the grain of the discourse of History, against what that discourse has covered up, to demonstrate the enunciative positions of power from which alterity has been and continues to be: reduced, silenced or expropriated. The translation scene, that imaginary place where the existence of the 'others' is settled, makes it possible to relate events in the broad temporal arc that goes from the American conquest to the present. From literary studies, these essays contribute to the knowledge of the continuities and ruptures in the American evolution of translation, in a critical work aimed at evaluating established forms of translation and imagining new alternatives"--
